Tracy and Antonino had a nautical themed wedding, largely because they met whilst both working on a ship. Antonino is Italian and was blessed to have family and friends fly out for the wedding, Tracy is South African and her parents have a home at Zimbali. We had a magnificent sunset which greeted us just as we started the creative shoot, we were on our way down to the beach when I spotted some rays of light shining through some trees onto the road so we stopped the cars and did a few photos. During the reception speeches I was walking past the front door and noticed a blonde lady posing for a photo next to the fairy lights, so I snapped a shot just for fun. Only later when I was editing the photos did I realize it was actually the well know Afrikaans singer Patricia Lewis!
Wishing you all the best Tracy and Antonino, thanks for having me document your big day!
It was so fun shooting the wedding of my good friends Darrell and Jess, it’s quite different to most of the weddings I shoot which are for couples I only meet either on the wedding day or maybe once before the wedding. It was a close-knit affair with our other friends Carryn from Desire 2 Hire who did the décor, and Dave Yapp from Top Jocks who spun the decks and kept the party going. Special thanks to my Ruth for all the help before, throughout and after the wedding day. The ceremony was held at Highbury Chapel in Hillcrest, we did the creative photo shoot at Summerveld and finally ended off with the reception at Bellevue Café.
Congratulations Darrell and Jess, it was an honor and a pleasure!
I’ve been wanting to blog this wedding for a while now but I’ve just been way too busy with so much editing. James and Sarah had a beautiful wedding in April, the ceremony was at the Maris Stella school chapel close to where Sarah grew up and the reception and photo shoot was at Talloula in Botha’s Hill. The decor was done magnificently as always by Glynnis at Talloula, and the food is always on another level. The DJ was John Roux from The Wedding DJ who I often work with.
James and Sarah were so kind and fun throughout their big day, they took it all in their stride and finished it off with a great party!
On the 27th of March last year I got an enquiry from Bronwyn, she explained that she is originally from South Africa but now lives in the USA. She was travelling to KZN to visit family with her new fiancé Ty and wanted to do an engagement shoot. So we made the arrangements and did a lovely sunrise engagement shoot in Ballito which you can see here. I sent their images off to them in the USA and thought nothing more of it. Then at the end of October I unexpectedly received another email from Bronwyn saying that they had booked their date and venue, and they had chosen Babylonstoren in the Western Cape. She said they were so happy with the engagement photos and asked if I was willing to travel down there to shoot the wedding too. My initial reaction was of surprise and delight, I’ll take any reason to go to Cape Town.
So in April Ruth and I spent a wonderful week in the Western Cape, we went to Paternoster and Langebaan and finished off with the wedding at Babylonstoren. The gardens and scenery were a treat to visit, and the food looked amazing. Ty and Bronwyn were lovely, down to earth and kind. Thanks again to Ty and Bronwyn for having us down to share their day!
It was such a pleasure shooting Rickaal and Melissa’s wedding, these are two kind and genuine people who were surrounded by a lot of love on their wedding day. We had a great bit of light for their creative photo shoot, and we took a drive to a forest down the road too for something a bit different and extra. The decor was spectacular, and I made a point of not using too much flash in order to capture the stunning ambiance inside the Collisheen boma.
Congratulations to Rickall and Melissa, your wedding was wonderful. It was an honour to be a part of it.
This was such a great wedding to shoot, any couple who chooses Thunderstruck by AC/DC as their entrance song to their reception is number one in my book! Greg and Melissa are such a fun couple who really enjoyed their relaxed wedding day. The weather was perfect, the ceremony and speeches were moving and emotional. Melissa looked like a doll in her short dress with red bow.
Thanks so much for making me part of your big day Greg and Melissa, congratulations!
I’ve always loved shooting weddings on game reserves, not only because I enjoy doing a bit of wildlife photography occasionally but also because of all the wide open spaces and the feel of being out in the African wilderness. It’s even better when it’s close to home, Tala is only about 30 minutes away from where I live in Hillcrest so it’s a quick trip home. Ryan and Candice’s wedding was stunning in every way, with the bridesmaids wearing shorter-than-usual blue dresses and the groomsmen all dressed in smart grey suits. We encountered some giraffe while we were out doing the photo shoot so we sneaked up and got as close to them as possible.
It was great working with my friend Steven Heyns from The Wedding DJ, and Gabby Fick who co-ordinated everything splendidly. Congratulations Ryan and Candice, and all the best for your new life over in the UK!
Today is a bumper wedding post. I shot two pre-functions plus the actual wedding for Manisha and Sam, the first was the Mendhi which was held at Manisha’s family home in Simbithi followed by the Hurdee at the Square in Umhlanga. Generally the sort of people who have the bigger and fancier weddings aren’t particularly the nicest people, but Manisha and Sam are completely down to earth and such a lovely couple. Their families are exactly the same, they welcomed me into their lives for a few days to share this special moment and I couldn’t have felt more welcome.
I worked with all the best wedding suppliers, it makes such a difference with A-players. Everything runs smoothly and is well organised. Congratulations Manisha and Sam!
When a couple comes home from the rainy UK to get married in sunny South Africa, the last thing they want is rain on their wedding day. Unfortunately this is exactly what happened, but Shaun and Rachel didn’t let it bother them at all. They had a wonderful wedding despite the odds, we did a good long photo shoot and they danced the night away with their friends from SA and the UK. It was definately one of the more spirited parties I can remember from recent weddings.
Umtamvuna River Lodge is one of the venues I enjoy shooting at a lot, there is plenty of spots for photos if you look hard enough. Congratulations Shaun and Rachel!
Stanton and Zenilla had two wedding ceremonies and two photo shoots, the first was a Catholic ceremony and the second was a traditional Hindu ceremony which was held at Coastlands Hotel in Umhlanga.
I normally do outdoor photo shoots at sunset, but with the way the day was planned out it wasn’t possible so we did a lot of indoor and night shots at the hotel. I was taken completely out of my comfort zone but I believe they turned out great. Congratulations Stanton & Zenilla!
